Education is the cornerstone of diabetes management. Our Diabetes Education Program provides diabetes self-management education that is consistent, comprehensive, current and easy to understand. The program meets national standards established by the American Diabetes Association for diabetes self-management education.
Our team of educators - nurse and dietitian - works together with participants and their health care providers to:
- Improve overall health
- Provide the knowledge and skills necessary to allow participants to make informed choices, facilitate behavior changes and reduce the risk of complications of diabetes
- Improve health and prevent diabetes onset in the general public by increasing awareness, knowledge and understanding of diabetes.

The program is staffed throughout the week with office hours by appointment.
The YVMC Diabetes Education Program serves patients of all ages with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and pre-diabetes. Scholarship assistance for selected programs is available for patients who do not have insurance coverage.
