Dr. Cohn is a Medical Oncologist and Medical Director of Research at Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers. He also is the Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Cohn is dedicated to providing patients with state-of-the-art care in a compassionate setting. His education, teaching, clinical experience, research activities and publications make Dr. Cohn one of the premier oncologists in the Rocky Mountain region.
After receiving his B.A. in biologic sciences from University of Maryland, he earned a M.S. in Tumor Immunology in 1981 and his M.D. in 1985 from the University of Maryland. He completed his internship in 1986 and residency in Internal Medicine in 1988 at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC). In 1991, Dr. Cohn completed his Fellowship in Hematology/Medical Oncology at UCHSC.
Dr. Cohn has served as Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, and Director, Clinical Cancer Center at UCHSC. He also has been Associate Director for Clinical Affairs and Acting Director, University of Colorado Cancer Center. He was Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, UCHSC, as well as an Instructor of Hematology/Medical Oncology, UCHSC.
Dr. Cohn also teaches clinics in Neuro-oncology, GI cancers, Head and Neck cancers and general cancer cases. He serves as the inpatient attending physician on the Oncology ward of Rocky Mountain Cancer Center. He also conducts monthly community outreach clinics on cancer topics at Yampa Valley Medical Center, Steamboat Springs.
From 1998 to the present, Dr. Cohn has held numerous prestigious positions, including Medical Oncologist at Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers. He also has served on the board of directors for University Hospital, Cancer Clinical Trials Task Force and University Physicians. Dr. Cohn has been a member of advisory boards for Glaxo Wellcome Oncology and OpTx/AMC. He served as Co-Chair, Ad Hoc Clinical Cancer Committee, University Hospital. He also was Director, Quality Improvement, Department of Medicine East and Cancer Center East Pavilion and Co-Director of the Vascular Access Program, UCHSC. He was Principal Investigator, American Cancer Technologies Research Program, University of Colorado, as well as a Task Force Member for Insurance Coverage of Clinical Cancer Trials in Colorado.
Since 1992, Dr. Cohn has brought his expertise to many organizations. He has been Medical Director, Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Alliance and a member of the organizations professional advisory board. Since 1996, he as served on the Chartwell Rocky Mountain Region Clinical Advisory Board, the Denver Visiting Nurse Association Board of Directors. He also speaks at a monthly community outreach clinic in Steamboat Springs.
He has been an active member of professional and hospital committees including the Vision 2020 Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and the Chemotherapy Task Force. He has been Co-Chair, Vascular Access Quality Committee, UCHSC; Chairman of the Ambulatory/Inpatient Oncology Program Subcommittee of the Lancer Committee; Member, Cancer Center Protocol Review Committee of the Tumor Board and Director, Quality Improvement (8East-EPAV) Committee.
Research and Publications
Dr. Cohn conducts clinical research into new treatments and therapies for gastrointestinal oncology including the colon, stomach, pancreas and liver. He also contributes to drug development and genitourinary oncology studies. At the University of Maryland, Dr. Cohn investigated basic cell mediated immunity, tumor immunology and regulation of surface histocompatibility antigens on tumor cells. His research efforts have been highlighted in more than 60 publications.
