Our YVMC Lab is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Joint Commission, and is licensed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) through CLIA. The Laboratory staff at YVMC are licensed through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Our Medical Director is a board-certified anatomic pathologist available for consultations with providers 7 days a week.

In order to combine resources of rural Colorado, we are affiliated with two health networks that work to improve healthcare and provide economic viability for laboratory services. Western Healthcare Alliance (WHA) and Carent Laboratory Solutions (formerly FLN) encourage collaboration between hospitals and local providers to enable a better continuum of care for our patients and the ability for patients to choose where their lab work gets analyzed.

By being a member of these networks, the YVMC lab is affiliated with Mayo Medical Laboratories for reference lab services. This collaboration allows for a comprehensive esoteric testing menu, improved turnaround time, and consultative services for hospitals and providers.

Facts to remember:

  • Laboratory expenditures are less than 1% of medical insurance premiums, yet 70% of the diagnostic information in a patient’s record is laboratory data.
  • 70% of the important medical decisions affecting a patient’s care involve a laboratory or pathology test.
  • 70% of all inquiries to a patient’s chart are specifically for laboratory results.
