Introducing Yampa Valley Medical Park
Introducing Yampa Valley Medical Park
At the corner of Walton Creek Road and South Lincoln Avenue, you may have noticed a new sign – Yampa Valley Medical Park. Formerly known as the Fagen Building, Yampa Valley Medical Park is now home to two services of Yampa Valley Medical Center: Integrated Health and YampaWorks.
“Both Integrated Health and YampaWorks have grown tremendously in the past year and they needed more space,” said Karen McRight, Senior Director of Marketing and Business Development. “We’re pleased we found such a spacious and convenient location. So far, the reception from our patients has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Integrated Health is a relatively new service of YVMC. It offers a range of practices including acupuncture, massage, mind-body counseling, yoga, nutritional counseling and Qigong. The term integrated describes medical practices that, while retaining many of the characteristics and strengths of biomedicine, also embrace the more holistic concepts and methods of complementary and alternative medicine practices. All Integrated Health staff members are certified and licensed in their respective disciplines.
“We serve clients with a wide range of backgrounds, needs and diagnoses,” said Angela Melzer, Director of Integrated Health. “Some of our patients are looking to take a more active, alternative and preventive role in their health. Other patients are managing complicated illnesses and they find the combination of traditional medicine and complimentary and alternative therapies very beneficial.”
Melzer points out that many patients embrace more than one service on their path to wellness. For example, cancer patients have benefitted from acupuncture, massage and counseling services. Cardiac rehab patients have embraced both mind-body counseling as well as nutritional counseling services.
Another benefit of the new location is that Integrated Health is able to offer a variety of classes to community members. New classes being offered this month include Mindfulness Meditation, Qigong, and Breathe Easy Yoga. Community members may purchase individual classes for $10 each or buy an 8 session punch card for $64.
Part of YVMC for many years, YampaWorks provides occupational health services to employers and individuals in the region. Under the direction of Frederick Scherr, MD, the region’s only board-certified occupational and environmental medicine physician, YampaWorks provides comprehensive work injury management, pre-employment exams, drug screening, rehabilitation services, laboratory services, diagnostic services and treatment of acute conditions.
“At YampaWorks, we have several goals. The first is to provide superior care to injured employees with a team approach,” said Ted Morton, Director of YampaWorks. “Additionally we strive to provide employers with tools to prevent injuries, increase productivity and lower healthcare costs.”
Some clients of YampaWorks have benefitted by services from Integrated Health. Last year, a construction worker who was injured on the job in Meeker was able to use the occupational therapy services of YampaWorks along with the counseling services of Integrated Health. Morton points out that now, having both services in the same location will make it easier for patients to access care.
Ted Morton, Director of YampaWorks is especially pleased with the new move. “The new location is not only a more spacious and comfortable environment, it is more convenient. We’ve expanded our services so that our clients can get everything they need in one place.”
Integrated Health and YampaWorks are located at Yampa Valley Medical Park, 3001 S. Lincoln Avenue, Suite A., Steamboat Springs. Integrated Health can be reached at 970-875-2731. YampaWorks can be reached at 970-875-2750.
